By: Queennandi X PNN QCH Not too long ago, a Latino Woman on YouTube had asked the question of why Black immigrants aren’t being deported from Amerikkka. The “not so bright” question was very upsetting to the people who watched the video and I was left wondering what planet was this woman on? Her asking that question is a terrible reminder that misinformation can sometimes lead to misplaced hatred and unconscious biased behavior in some people. The exodus of all people of color being detained in ICE “concentration camps” is nothing short of systematic cultural genocide that’s controlled by colonizing illegals. According to the Human Rights Watch, 52 people, possibly more, has died in the custody of ICE, including a Haitian woman, elders, and a bi-cultural man from black/asian descent who subsequently lost his life due to being left out to freeze in harsh weather conditions. Although the majority of the detainees did not even have criminal records, well over 71,000 people were systematically kidnapped and detained-four times the rate that of the Biden administration, and 39 of them perished within the first year of Trumpaklan’s second term, thus bypassing the morality rate during his first one. Further reports stated that 20% of black immigrants who commit crimes similar to other immigrant populations are more than likely to be deported based upon criminal grounds and convictions. The “war on drugs” with the backing of the violent crime control and law enforcement act (referring to the 1994 crime bill) is eerily similar to the IIRIRA (illegal immigration reform and immigrant responsibility act) which resulted in mass incarceration of people of color throughout the prison and detention systems. Historically speaking however, the black population in this country doesn’t just have to deal with ICE, but the KKK also. The other fact is that our multi cultural families have reaped the “benefits” of the “immigration shuffle” only to treat their African relatives with contempt, and in many cases have perpetuated the “if you can’t beat em’, join them” mindset, collaborating with the wite supremacists and continuing to support the oppression of black people and even profiting from it instead of working together against a common enemy who has us all on the same hit list. POOR MAGAZINE- past and present has always stood tall- throwing down against the deportations and the overall wicked propaganda against all people who are darker than blue that included our Cambodian, Raza, Haitian, Palestinian, African, Arabic and our multi cultural Muslim families that has always been under constant colonial attacks. However, there is little to no “equality” due to the fact that the descendants of the “stealing fathers” of this nation has very seldom faced the same fate as the rest of us, regardless of our contributions to the building/progress to Amerikkka- voluntarily or by force. While Mayors from LA to San Francisco claim their “Homeless population” is decreasing, the violent policy of “sweeps” increase and the budgets for homelessness are cut– A powerful new movie created by houseless/formerly houseless sweeps and eviction survivors is featured at this year's Social and Economic Justice Film Festival on Saturday, July 25th.. The tragic and horrible story of Luis Temaj, an indigenous immigrant who crossed false borders to work in this stolen land and after losing his job ended up sleeping houselessly on the streets of the Mission district of San Francisco is just one of the ancestors of homelessness featured, honored and focused on in the new movie Crushing Wheelchairs and illustrates the danger of racist, anti-homeless, anti-immigrant hate. Crushing Wheelchairs with an original screenplay written by houseless poet and povertyskola tiny gray-garcia and adapted from her award winning play of the same name, focuses on the violence of homelessness, city and state sponsored sweeps, anti-homeless hate and poLice terror. The movie includes an all houseless/formerly houseless cast whose motto is: “We aren’t acting, we are living.” It was shot primarily in houseless communities (encampments) and on the streets in Oakland and San Francisco. “The story of Crushing Wheelchairs is written in a prayer, a dream, and a scream felt and barely survived by me, tiny gray-garcia aka povertyskola, my houseless, disabled mama, and all of my fellow poverty/disability skolaz & ancestors portrayed/lived in this movie/story. This is the art of our lives, our almost survival, and our death at the hands of laws that say our bodies and lives are criminal and that we are trash.” –tiny gray-garcia (writer, co-director) The lead characters in this powerful movie feature tiny and her mother, who struggled with homelessness throughout her childhood and later were arrested for sleeping on the streets of Oakland; Aunti Frances Moore, a formerly houseless Black Panther in Oakland; Stephanie Grant, who was pregnant and homeless when she witnessed the murder of Luis Gongora Pat by poLice in 2016, for being houseless and indigenous in a rapidly gentrifying San Francisco Mission neighborhood. The ancestors of homelessness we also focus on include Steven Taylor, murdered by poLice in Walmart while houseless for having a mental health crisis; Papa Bear, a houseless veteran of three tours in Vietnam, who died on the streets of San Francisco after receiving 280 citations for being houseless on the street, iris Canada, a 100 year old Black Elder evicted to homelessness from her longtime home in the Fillmore due to gentrification, Shannon Marie Bigley, Cornelius Taylor and James Edward Oakley, all run over by bulldozers in sweeps of their tents in California and Atlanta, Anjileen “Green Eyes” Swan, who died after being violently swept in Los Angeles and Luis Temaj, burned alive while asleep in his sleeping bag and so many more. We are living in a moment when Mayors across California and the nation use the policy of sweeps on a daily basis to disappear houseless peoples bodies and comeUnities off the streets by force, and cut all of our housing first and treatment resources–all of which further enhanced already dangerous sweeps that were amped up last year’s Supreme Court ruling that stated living while houseless in the US is a crime (City of Grants Pass vs. Johnson, 2024) and that houseless people have no protection under the Constitution. And that this crime is punishable by arrest and incarceration. But how can you incarcerate someone for being poor, for being disabled, for not having enough money or credit to pay rent to attain shelter? How can we be punished for living outside without access to shelter? In the state of California, the Governor has claimed that our bodies are equivalent to trash. In the city and county of San Francisco, the mayor has deemed our presence a blight; and in Los Angeles where, on average, six unhoused people die everyday, our outside comeUnities (encampments) are being destroyed, evicted, and disappeared. Our Lives are now deemed unworthy of human rights, so I suppose in the eyes of the State we are not human, we are in fact trash. “But we are not trash. This movie at this time is urgent medicine for humanity itself, who through this art can realize that we as houseless people are just like housed people. We are workers, and artists, and poets and innovators, and survivors. English translation I recall the stories shared by our people—how, for some time now, parents from many families have suffered greatly when traveling north to seek a better life for their loved ones. They force their bodies to walk long distances to reach their destination, encountering unfamiliar customs and languages, as well as the dividing line known as the border. I imagine Pancho Villa also stood his ground when the güeros (white Americans) crossed into Mexico. Pancho Villa did not speak their language; he would call them "gringos"—a term meant to tell them to go back to their own country. From that time to the present, we have faced countless policies and laws—and the consciences of those who uphold them—amidst the racism and capitalism directed at those of us who continue to come to this country of fifty states, long known as the land of opportunity. I try to maintain a sense of order among those who identify as immigrants; in the past, we were given the chance to live and work here. Over time, however, politicians have used immigrants as scapegoats for the community's suffering, wielding their power to advance racist agendas. I am an immigrant myself, and I have always lived with the fear that I could be deported across that line called the border. As time has passed, the federal agency known as ICE has ramped up the deportation of immigrants arriving from countries all over the world. While ICE and the courts claim they only want to deport those who commit crimes, the reality is rife with racism and anti-immigrant policies; there are long lists of people who have been deported. Consider the story of a family living and working in Houston, Texas: the father was an exemplary figure who built a family and established his own business through hard work. ICE—perpetuating racism against immigrants—upended the life of this fellow immigrant, Lorenzo Salgado. ICE violates immigrants' rights and, in doing so, sows terror within the community, particularly among the most vulnerable.

By Ms. Omowale Fowles We still desperately need to raise the discriminatory issue that the City of Berkeley does NOT FUND ANY homeless housing nor make available any voucher-based housing programs for unhoused parents, single women or single men, with children under the age of 18! It has been tragically notable that the City of Berkeley, several years ago, discontinued its funding to Family Front Door--as affirmed by an administrator at Family Front Door during the same week that I was trying to enroll two of my homeless client families into their program on a Wednesday, their primary intake day; and yet, when challenged and questioned by phone and in a Berkeley City Council meeting, the standard reply given said that Berkeley did not have a contract with Family Front Door! If true, then how was I able to house several BERKELEY families with minor children in Family Front Door facilities in the previous year? Image from Family Front Door https://bfwc.org/ Berkeley's cutoff of funds to the service contract with Family Front Door, without any public notice nor agenda item during any City Council nor Finance Committee meeting, constituted one of the most flagrant acts of racial and economic class bias and discrimination that the City has enacted, making temporary housing COMPLETELY UNavailable to homeless Berkeley residents with children enrolled in Berkeley Unified Schools, K-12; the vast majority of whom were PEOPLE OF COLOR (Black, Indigenous Native, Latino, Asian) and POOR Whites. That act was obscured by the simultaneous and continuous curtailment of support for poor people living in RV's who parked at the Berkeley Marina and by the shutdown of tiny homes and City-Rented RV programs under the Public Health Department which had housed high-risk patients who were the most vulnerable to COVID. Those patients were either transferred to other pre-COVID-19 RISK motels, hospitalized if they became seriously ill, or otherwise removed from Berkeley entirely. The city's taxes and fees for Bike Lanes that endanger disabled persons corresponds directly to the City's moves to make homeless housing dollars available for NON-homeless housing projects and city renovation priorities like special bus traffic lanes, re-building and other infrastructure plans. ((Editor's note: these bike lanes refer to the additions on the Adeline Corridor, an area home to many disabled individuals who are endangered by bike traffic when exiting specialized vehicles)) Do the words " misappropriation of funds" strike a familiar chord with anyone? They should, since funds from the past ten years (2016-2026) of voter approved parcel taxes SPECIFICALLY FOR HOUSING HOMELESS PEOPLE OFF OF THE STREETS have NOT EVER BEEN put into special Financial Accounts for those specific purposes, but instead have been conveniently and UNtransparently merged onto the City of Berkeley’s General Account. So, now we have millions of dollars of prettily colored, wasted paint; unnecessarily doubled, white-lined traffic lanes and plastic parking cones that do not, and have not, improved traffic flow in the selected circle of streets that "sort of" surround downtown Berkeley such as Telegraph, Durant, Bancroft, etc, and the mess that is now a partially paralyzed one-way street that used to be a free-flowing, two-way Milvia. So where DO Berkeley's Homeless Parents with Children SLEEP? Perhaps if we could return the City Council's focus to its residents' health and safety, both of which adequate Housing provides for individuals and families as well as communities as a whole, we could spend less time and money worrying about air-borne infectious diseases like COVID and Measles--which the Hanta-virus is NOT--and re-invest our energies, tax dimes and dollars on more accessible, up-to-date Public Health Testing stations and free masks on public vehicles such as buses, BART and maybe even LYFT and UBER as well as on HOUSING: all of which are health preventative strategies that work effectively, efficiently, less expensively, and much more humanely than plastic littered, painted streets, slower traffic- flow lanes, and police sweeps! Poor Magazine runs the The Po Mamas Pañales (diapers) Fund, which provides free diapers to babies, because we understand how poor mamas are criminalized for getting their babies what they need. The Po Mamas Pañales Fund distributes diapers every Thursday at noon, at 8032 MacArthur Blvd. Part 1 One year old Kohen Wiley was shot and killed and his mother critically injured during a police shooting over the alleged theft of diapers at a Walmart in Senatobia, Mississippi. According to MBI investigators, law enforcement was responding to a shoplifting call involving two adults and one minor who were suspects in an alleged theft of diapers. When the “suspects” tried to flee the scene, police said that the car was going towards the direction of officers in an attempt to run them down, therefore to preserve just their lives, the police opened fire on the vehicle in which the precious toddler Kohen was fatally wounded. While the family of Kohen Wiley demands justice for the baby, the “sinful stone throwers of society” argue that the alleged theft led to the demise of the child, so the adults who were involved are the ones responsible. The tragedy of this incident is common in Amerikkka. The verdict against poor people who “expropriate” for survival is handed down with the lack an open mind to the fact that no one looks into “the actionary” executive orders of systematic genocide and “poverty hits” that are signed into law by the brutally beast-minded president Donald Trump(a-clan) that affects this nation, especially people of color. Instead, the blame game always targets the “reactionary” that is in survival mode. The overlooked fact of the matter is the CPS system in this country will remove children from their homes if not cared for properly and charges are filed in a lot of these cases against the parents, HOWEVER no charges are EVER filed against the political tyrants for attempted famine/murder/genocide upon the innocent children across Amerikkka with the stroke of their poisoned blood-inked pens leads to parents and other caregivers having little to no choice but to “reparate” in order to survive. With that said, it should tell readers a lot about this country and its dehumanizing political practices in a nutshell. The stigma of “drug addicts doing all the shoplifting” is a played out cliche because unfortunately it has been a survival tactic for many that lives in a society where “wicked rulers” say that we are not entitled to food or decent housing that only the race-class privileged are allowed to reap. No one argues the fact that in some states there is access to food, clothing and other pantries for necessities available, so kudos to those who practice the “we take care of each other” universal obligation to people in need. There are solutions to this crisis - instead of billionaire corporations like Walmart sending death squads to make arrests on alleged shoplifters, try having diaper/food drives especially in areas that are low/no income, areas that corporations are always extracting wealth from. Instead of condemning a drug addict to hell, why not contribute to rehabilitation sanctuaries and permanent housing instead of being quietly in cahoots with drug distributors (systematic genocide, once again). Those who have means to buy diapers or a meal for someone who cannot, please do so because it is a beautiful, rewarding feeling to help out others and the universe will bless your good deeds. And the final message of this piece is to acknowledge the fact that “theft” has been always been a tactic to obtain generational wealth, power and the ability to oppress Mama Earth with impunity. Universal theft from the United Snakkkes to Europe was way more ruthless, bloody and dehumanizing than a “meth addict or poor mother/father” shoplifting from corporate stores. What about the theft of Africans, the theft of our priceless artifacts from all over the world. The theft of the beautiful, rare animals from all across the globe who are being incarcerated in “zoos” AND hunted and slaughtered for profit. What about the theft of cultures, religions, languages, land, identities, the life of Kohen Wiley and masses of others-MAMA EARTH - PERIOD! For centuries these demonized “humans” have been given pardons for their crimes against humanity as a whole, while a child was killed over diapers. These “Universal Beasts” still continue to hand out death sentences to Mama Earth and her children, but at the same time they have the unmitigated gall to throw around the slogan “Hello Humankindness” WOW! Part 2 The murder of 1-year old Kohen Wiley by Senatobia police has triggered mass public outrage that has led to protests in front of both Walmart and the police department in Senatobia, Mississippi. According to the earlier reports from the MBI, Kohen Wiley’s mother and a family friend were accused of shoplifting diapers from a Walmart store and then allegedly tried to run over police officers in an attempt to escape which resulted in the officers opening fire on the vehicle killing 1 year old Kohen and critically injuring the driver. In a brief video posted by the local media, a gray car was seen driving away steering towards the left for a second while police were running to their cars that were parked on the right side of the parking lot, which doesn’t coincide with earlier reports stating that the driver was attempting to run down the officers while fleeing. Kohen’s mother, Vellesiya Wiley said that the three “went to Walmart for diapers” and that they were stopped as they exited the store but she “kept walking because it had nothing to do with me” she said. Another media source had said that “the diapers were paid for at a self- checkout line” but the mother was never the initial “suspect” in the alleged shoplifting incident when they were intercepted from leaving. Ms. Wiley had also stated that “officers ran towards the car with guns drawn” so she had “raised baby Kohen up to show that he was in the car.” The driver insisted that she didn’t attempt to hit any officers in an attempt to flee the scene, however it was also said that the driver had accidentally bumped into another car while the passenger’s side door was open and the police officers started shooting. With so many conflicting statements in the earlier reports, attorneys representing the Wiley family -Ben Crump and Val Turner- are requesting that the videos from both Walmart and the police body cameras be released so they can get a better understanding of what happened that led to the toddler’s death. MBI has said that it may take up to several months for the video footage to be released, which is another claim that doesn’t make any sense. However, it seems as if they want to do their own investigation first, but with so many inconsistencies in the earlier reports, any conclusion to the MBI investigation cannot be trusted. Even though the child’s mother hasn’t been formally charged with any crime, the “sinful stone throwers of society” feels like she should be charged with child endangerment for bringing Kohen with her in the first place, but if she wasn’t accused and charged with shoplifting how is that putting her son in danger? The officers on the scene are liable for baby Kohen Wiley losing his precious life because no matter what the circumstances are, there are protocols that should be followed to prevent this from happening to anyone, regardless if they are right or wrong. The golden rule to preserve lives is often overlooked especially when it comes down to people of color and the fact that Kohen’s mother had made it known that there was a baby with the adults further convinces us that our lives are expendable. Serial killers like Ted Bundy and many others have been taken into custody “safely” without a hitch, these folks who have committed horrific crimes seems to have more rights than a child caught in the crossfire due to alleged shoplifting, and not only are they treated like “human beings” until proven guilty, they go on to be glorified in movies and documentaries. In Senatobia, Mississippi the pattern of young black boys being criminalized and killed is a tragic scenario that is no different from any other state in this kkkountry. About three years back, a 10 year old African descendant boy was arrested for urinating by his mother’s car while she was in a lawyer’s office and he was given probation. Even the “winos” had their own “kick it spot” at the mini park and any negative behavior or actions in the presence of children was next to non-existent. As a fourth generation “Fillmoelian,” the experience of standing by, watching helplessly as the radiation from the “gentribombs” execute the final solution to the destruction of African descendent neighborhoods is a horrible slap in the face from the “nice racists” who strut down the street at a fast pace, normalizing “accidental” run-ins and sometimes knocking folks down to the ground altogether (elders and children are not excluded, neither was my toddler grandsunn) refusing to apologize because they are in a hurry, flying past people with apple earbuds on. In my opinion, I am entitled to label this behavior as “low-key colonial assault” and if you’re not pushed to the side, you’re attacked by standard poodles (like I was) because the owner or “pet parent” wanted me to know and accept that the “MAGA Minded” is taking over Frisco (San Francisco) and there is not a “damm thing” I can do about it. The COVID pandemic had sunk many of our rooted businesses from domestic services and families in the restaurant industry. The “takeout only” rule created devastating difficulties for many homegrown establishments while simultaneously these “cup-cake, half baked, pricey, only serve spicy” eateries began to sprout up like generic cabbage patch dolls because those with “privilege” have their own funds to cut through loopholes and snatch up an exodus of parking spaces to create outdoor dining, reserved spaces for motorcycles, motor scooters and bike lanes while there was no assistance, safety nets or “bailouts” for businesses owners who don’t have access to colonizer wealth. San Francisco has always had a long standing reputation of being a multicultural, LGBTQ and migrant friendly city by the bay but unfortunately in an overnight’s time it has turned into a passive-aggressive “Mini MAGALAND” with the COINTELPRO agenda of flooding the impoverished communities with deadly drugs like Fentanyl while the arrogant “falsely entitled” step over overdosed souls, venomously scorning the downtrodden with cliche remarks like “ You need a job!” - NOT accurate and effective treatment of the mind, body and soul and stable housing - but “NO, You need a job!!” These “locusts in inhumane form” will never dare stand tall against the “pharmaceutical drug leaks” that is killing off communities, even those rural areas that are mostly populated by impoverished white folks. They will never attack the source, only those affected by the results of the travesty that's quietly known as population control. Instead those of us with Native Roots here have experienced unpunished hate crimes at a “Jim Crow” rate with the “gentrifukers” fussing and cussing at us saying that “WE don’t belong here!!” They follow it up with harsh, nasty stares and glares and the reason being is these “community terminators” genuinely believe that WE don’t deserve to live in communities grounded in any form of culture or spirituality - period! Even social media has a helluva platform for “internet gangstas” whose on purpose in “blinded life” is to log in, insult each other from different hoods/plantations, resulting in shootings and the continued genocide of children of color. These naysayers always antagonize the people with the same “dumb-devil” questions, like “Where are the parents?” Well the answer for many in deep struggle would be “paralyzed, neutralized, traumatized” and self-medicating with the poison YOUR corporate pharmaceutical companies create with YOUR investments! So stop using the “street pharmacist” as a scapegoating excuse when they are just the low-level vendors and you are the TOP BOSS! They then go on to say, “Well why don’t you educate your children?” WELL why did you uproot and remove our primary educational resources of cultural learning (Marcus bookstore, The African outlet). Oh and this age-old “dumb devil” question always takes the cake - “Why don’t you go back to your own countries?!” According to the oppressed masses the answer to that would be: “Why don’t you go back to yours, also?!” YOU have slaughtered and exploited many nations in order to successfully steal Turtle Island, so it is definitely safe to say that we are all immigrants as you label it, however the only exception would be that colonizers came here voluntarily and through invasions, while MY people were kidnapped, crammed into the bottom of slave ships brought here by force to build YOUR Amerikkka. You MAGA Monsters of racism to this day live off the fruits of our Ancestral labor. As soon as we built up OUR thriving communities and “Black Wallstreet” like in Tulsa, the jealous hateful so-called entitled white supremacists raided our neighborhoods, burnt down our homes and businesses, murdered the village, and had the unmitigated gall to create laws that prohibited Africans from defending ourselves from the original “ICE with white sheets.” Last but not least is the grand finale question that’s worn down and old - the infamous “Why you people always pull the race card?” And it will be simply answered with, “Why did YOU create the deck of cards in the first place?!” It is frightening to overstand that these MAGA Kevins and Karens will NEVER look into the mirror and own up to their generational misdeeds, because to do so will dismantle white (non)-supremacy in so many ways (not to mention put a huge dent in their “false entitlement” way of thinking). The Poor Mama’s Reparations Fund is very important to the families who are struggling with necessities such as food, transportation, housing, and utilities without having to deal with the stress and anxiety of waiting in long lines for hours, worrying about whether or not you will receive any immediate help, or be told to come back the next day in order to alleviate the hunger pangs of the families who need food on the table for the day. It is a dehumanizing experience to be told to wait 24 hours just to eat. Many of us, including myself had to deal with the sarcastic “sorry” that spews from the mouths of unruly employees who treat folks in need with contempt as if they have to pay for the emergency assistance themselves. The Poor Mama’s Reparations Fund is from the community, for the community. Poverty skolarz such as Lisa “Tiny” Gray-Garcia, Muteado Silencio and other warriors for the people are empathetic to our struggles because they too are survivors of oppression. Their hard work contributes to the empowerment of self-sufficiency unlike the wicked rulers who dismantle the interdependence agenda just to pacify us with the “charity” concept instead of “care-rity”. Then they weaponize the narrative of public assistance and charity to use it against those in deep struggle and label us “lazy," “complacent,” or “crazy.” History/ourstory has clearly shown that there is a consequence to being interdependent because if we are, for one reason or another, wite “non-supremacy” looks at it as a threat, because with self-sufficiency comes power to the people.
