On June 26th, 2026 at 1:00 p.m., Mauna Kea Education and Awareness will deliver the
petition No Construction of the TMT Telescope on Mauna Kea petition with over
500,500 verified signatures to the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation (located at 1661

and supporters along with Native tribal leaders and organizations. Press conference to
follow.
Along with the petition will be the Notice to Cease and Desist in pursuing construction of
TMT on Mauna Kea, recently served by Puʻuhonua o Puʻuhuluhulu to the TMT

Center for Racial Justice, UC Santa Cruz.
The kiaʻi (protectors) of Mauna Kea have successfully stalled the TMT project for over a
decade and have vowed to continue their efforts to protect and safeguard their sacred
mountain no matter how long it takes.
See Mauna Kea Fact Sheet for a brief overview of Mauna Kea and TMT’s history.
From the closing statement of the petition, “This is not just about one mountain in
Hawai’i. This is a global movement and the world is watching.”
