Tu derecho a noticias verdaderas

INGLES

Your Right to Truthful News

Dear Madam,

You have the right to know what is happening in the world, in your country, in your state, and in your community. However, some news outlets place their financial interests above the truth and disregard our lives, our experiences, and our voices. On social media, news also circulates without anyone investigating it or checking the reliability of its sources.

As Chispita, a journalist with Prensa Pobre, I care about your access to accurate information. That is why I invite you to visit our website, Poor Magazine, where my colleagues and I tell our stories and share the realities of our communities.

We are Indigenous people, people experiencing homelessness, workers, street vendors, and journalism students. We describe what we experience and, with determination, investigate what is happening in this country and around the world. We make room for the voices of people living in poverty, mothers whose children suffer exploitation, and women who have experienced violence. Our experiences deserve to be heard, too.

Dear Madam, I invite you to evaluate what you read, cross-check sources, and understand the facts before sharing a news story. Your experience and your voice matter, too. Why not write about what is happening in your neighborhood, your community, or your region?

Protect yourself from false news. Ask questions, investigate, and share information you can verify. Tell your story and help others learn about your community’s experiences.

Please do not spread false news among those around you, especially your young children, whom you love so dearly. Caring for them also means taking care with the information you pass on to them. Begin by informing yourself and checking the facts before sharing them with others.

As a pillar of society, you can contribute to journalism that respects our lives, listens to our voices, and remains committed to the truth.
