Marcus Garvey Day

Celebrate with me the Birthday of the Honourable Marcus Mosiah Garvey and his Legacies to the Pan African World:

  1. All people of African Ancestry worldwide are united under ONE FLAG with the colors Red - for the blood of our people; Black  - for the color of our people; Green   - for the Land of our people, the Continent of Africa (at first, in Ancient times, known as AL-KEBULAN, the home of the "originals")

2. His human philosophies for our people: " Black is Beautiful!" and "Up, you Mighty Race, you can accomplish what you will!"

These sayings he rolled into a new focus on life and brought forward a business philosophy of "Do for self" which meant creating and implementing activities and enterprises that benefited all of us simultaneously worldwide/nationwide/community-wide and across, as well as throughout, each and every household;

3.  He established The Black Star Line, a shipping company that sailed the seas and oceans, sharing the products and artisan pieces among  the African Descended nations and peoples of the Caribbean, the African Continent, as well as the U.S., Canada, and Europe where critical masses of African Descendants resided, produced goods, mastercrafts, agricultural products and services to share internationally and with other Pan African communities along the Gulf of Mexico, in South America and the South Pacific Islands;

4. Founded the UNIA and the African League in the 1920's, taught and espoused the liberating philosophies of "Do for self" --meaning the village as a whole--and "Up, you Mighty Race..."--to build on the SANKOFA of our collective, historic Empires and Civilizations of the Ancient and more recent past and to reconstruct the conscious embrace of our collective Identity as an African People who can achieve all things that we decide to do, build, have, and share.  So, on this 17th Day of 2026, we give honour and praise to The Honourable Marcus Garvey of St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica on the occasion of his 139th Birthday. AMEN and ASÉ!
