My eyes fixed on the acrylic blood of the fallen martyr. The WPA mural on the back wall of the ILWU union hall depicted a policeman wielding a deadly billy club as the common people held placards in protest of human and civil rights' violations by government. The huge image provided a fitting backdrop for the site of the ratification of a Plan for Action to End Homelessness in San Francisco.

Well, well, well, imagine me, Lester the cat, writing about pigeons- whatever I know about pigeons could go in a cook book, along with all of the other tasty things that I’ve eaten.

Hands tells me secretly, Why don’t we invite those pigeons over for dinner sometime soon?

Suppose a surreal scene (for, in Oakland, politics is the art of the surreal). Suppose an elitist city planner goes out of control after watching the film, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, where the real inhabitants of a town are replaced, one by one, with aliens and no one is supposed to even mention the sinister plan. In a frenzy, said city planner decides to create a master plan for the secret removal of the unwanted poor from Oakland and their one-on-one replacement by white, affluent dot-commers.

50 Years Underground! Assata Shakur responds to 50 years of Media lies and political repression

Monday, May 1, 2000

My name is Assata Shakur, and I am a 20th century escaped slave. Because of government persecution, I was left with no other choice than to flee from the political repression, racism and violence that dominate the US government's policy towards people of color. I am an ex-political prisoner, and I have been living in exile in Cuba since 1984.

The Color of Trust: the impact of AB1800 on African American mental health consumers.

In a recent study, reserchers at the Universtiy of California at Berkeley School of Social Welfare found that at least one-third of Blacks receiving psychiatric care in the Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay area emergency wards were given twice the dosage of an anti-psychotic drug, compared with patients of other races. This is not surpising because African Americans have a long history of being over-medicated by the mental health system.
