This story all started on December 2, 2015. A man named Mario Woods was killed at the age of 26. He was killed in a cold blooded murder. They said that Woods had a weapon in his hand but really he did not. So that is why Deecolonize Academy went to the march down in the Mission in San Francisco, a place that is ugly and beautiful all in the same.
I and my Deecolonize Academy and POOR Magazine family went to a protest at City Hall, the protest was about gentrification, housing, and displacement.
An example of housing displacement is the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD). RAD is impacting low income families who live in public housing in San Francisco and all over the nation, because RAD is a move to privatize all the public housing buildings in the United States.
The RAD program was created by the San Francisco Housing Authority and non profit organizations.
I was only two years old when I came to the United States from New Zealand. At that time I had no idea what was happening or where we were going. I just knew we were suppose to be going somewhere that will change our lives for the best.
I don’t remember much of how I came here, I just knew that one day I’m in my homeland and the next I'm in a strange place that I’ve never been before.
I am Heidy. I come from a Honduran family. Honduras is in Central America I was born outside of the U.S. therefore im an “illegal alien” as they kindly put it in the United States. I was brought here when I was 3 years old. The root cause for leaving Honduras was because of violence. I don’t really remember how my journey here was. I’m sure it wasn’t in a first class airplane.
I am Tiburcio Garcia from Deecolonize Academy and I am reporting for Poormagazine.
Two Mexican Chicano and Mayan poverty scholars died in between 2014 and 2015. Alex Nieto 28, died march 21, 2014 on Bernal Hill in San Francisco, California. He died because of the rich people invading his neighborhood. They called the cops on him when he was sitting down eating his burrito before work. They racially profiled him . Then they killed him shortly afterword.
