EDIFICE
______

It stands
Idle.
Empty.
Unused.
Rooms devoid of purpose.
Corridors look
Barely visited, floors
Collecting dust
In the passage of years.
This old edifice
Had its beginnings when
Part of the war machine
Fell silent & vanished.
It was born
When a fence was surmounted
By bold young ones.
Beyond the chainlink barrier,
They found the future
And occupied it.
Guardians of the war machine relented
And the edifice changed over to
Youthful, capable hands.

Christened in honour of
A great peacemaker &
A prophet,
Two powerful spirits,
They gathered many
Visitors, traveling for miles
In search of knowledge
About themselves.
Spirituality.
Ceremonies.
A link with Gaia & her creations.
Ancestors.
Aboriginal culture.
Tribal pride.

Darker days were ahead
When the edifice
Closed its doors.
Stripped of usefulness.
No more visitors
Red & Brown
Congregated.
No more lessons
From the mists of history
To impart on hungry
Young minds.

Much like a sterile old tree
No longer able to bare fruit,
It stands
Idle.
Empty.
Unused.
A hollow structure.

The edifice
Would've been left to fate
Had a new
Generation of brave young ones not
Occupied it,
In the manner of their forerunners.
The visitors will return.
The lessons will begin again.
The two powerful spirits
Iroquois & Mexica
Will be proud--------
